Fundraiser and Birds

I haven’t written for a couple of days.

Sunday, my friend Shawn had her first annual fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House here in Denver. It was very fun and successful. I took my girlfriend Kim with me. She had a good time also. I auctioned off a couple ot things. I had bids in on 2 8×10 photos of me work and I also put in a haircut/color. I had a ton of fun talking to people about my work and where I travel to. It really helped prepare me for what Monday brought. The event was so fun. She had a great band, great food and I met a lot of cool people. Good job Shawn. I’m so proud of her!!!

I didn’t have a good day Monday, but I learned a ton. It’s actually one of those things that I’ll keep private, because I don’t feel good about writing about it. I guess my year was going a bit too well. I had to get grounded agaiin. I seriously was having the best year!!!! It’ll still will be a wonderful year. I have no doubt about it. The photo opportunities that are coming my way are good.

I had my volunteer day with the birds today. I whacked my head really bad on a nest box for an owl. Man! I saw stars there for a bit. It was really cold out there, so basically we pick up dead animals and then pick up all those critters and put them in a bag and label it. It will go back to the birds once it’s all thawed. Sadly, a Red Tail had to be put down today. We had given him a long time to try and recover from a dreaded lung virus. It had been looking bad for a month or more and it was getting medicine for what he had, but I think a combination of cold and having this stuff, sent him into a sad place today. I went in the cage and he was on the ground with his wings sort of spread out gasping for air. I had Heidi come out and she assessed the situation and saw puss coming out of the poor little things nose. Ht was very sick, so she had to put him down today. It was sad. I was really hoping he would pull through this Winter and get released.

Chuck the Turkey Vulture was in a new cage today with another vulture, and he didn’t seem happy. He’s pretty spoiled and doesn’t like the smaller loafing shed. It’s not meant for flying so much in those cages. Plus, turkey vultures are bald, or have little teeny tiny hairs on their head, and would die in the Winter, so they have to be in a heated area. I just don’t think he likes it. Brett tried to give him a mouse and usually he’ll take one from Brett but he flew off to another perch. That’s not like him. He usually likes to be social. I just love that bird, even if he is really ugly.

Tomorrow it’s back to work.

Today was Mr. Guam’s birthday, so I dropped a card over at his house. I hear from my friend Jeffrey every once in a while. He’s a nice guy. Juan and I talked a bit on IM last night. He always has a lot going on, sort of like me. Walter and I need to have another movie date night. He’s nice to have as a friend. There is no pressure there with him at all, and I enjoy that.

My birthday is coming up soon. I’m getting excited about it. I just love my birthday! Last year wasn’t so fun and my 40th totally sucked, but those are the only two that I know of. I love having birthdays. So many people never get to even live this long, and so many people live without sucking every drop out life and enjoying the highs as well as lows. Yesterday was not so fun…..today was good. Tomorrow is going to be even better, I can feel it.  : )
