My First Blog
My website is getting close to being finished. Thanks to Michael and Courtney for their hard work and their patience with me.
I hope to entertain you with my stories of travel, adventure, my photos and ummm, my search for a great man in my life.
A story of my back ground: I was born in Tennessee, lived there for a bit with my family, consisting of my parents and 4 sisters. I moved to Kentucky, Kansas and then to the great state of Colorado as a 3rd grader. I tell people I am half hillbilly, and half redneck. My father being the redneck and my momma being the hillbilly. My family is one of those that puts the fun in disfunctional. I’m numer 4 out of 5 girls. The youngest never got the beatings the rest of us got. I think they got tired with trying to keep me pointed in the right direction, by the way of spankings.
All of us girls went to Catholic school at St. Mary’s in Littleton, Colorado. Boy, do I have some great nun stories!Maybe I will tell some of those sometime. Some of those nuns would be in jail for what they did if it was present day. Hey, don’t get me wrong. I don’t know how teachers deal with bad kids now? Kids get away with way too much in classes now.
I went to public high school which was fun, but not the best education. I did have some great teachers along the way in high school to keep me interested enough to keep me going back. I loved Science and Art and various sports such as basketball, archery, and chasing boys. I also worked on cars with my Pop since I was 3 years old. He bought my first car when I was 14. I did nearly all the body work and my Pop did the engine work. It was a sweet 68 Camaro. Man, do I wish I had that car still! I only got one speeding ticket in it, although thanks to good genes I looked my way out of several. I talked my way out of the rest. I still must have it a bit, since I haven’t received a ticket after being stopped several times.
After high school my parents got divorced. I had already moved out and my youngest sister Susan was still living at home. My momma was having such a hard time and wanted me to move back home. The reward would be…she would send me to beauty school. Ok, that didn’t seem bad, so I moved back home. I think my mom cried everyday for about a year. Still to this day she has never been with anyone but my Pop, but he did remarry breifly. It was hell, but I knew my mom needed me then. I sucked it up and also got into my first physical fight with my youngest sister. I tell you what, you never want to fight my sister. The WORST dirty fighter. Weapons, punches, etc. She only kicked me in the stomach at the end of out fight, after I gave up!! Nice!
I got my cosmetologist license and was off on my career. I worked at the coolest salon for 18 years. It was started by a woman who hired me in the line of a local grocery store. I loved working there. It was the hub of activity in Denver. Known for wild hair, which is fun to create and look at, but not for me. I became the 3rd owner after buying the salon for $300.00 Yep, that’s correct $300.00!!! I worked there for 18 years, sold it and moved on. I still do hair to make money and little by little the photography is edging its way into taking over. Now it’s been 26 years! I call myself a “hairapist”. After that many years of hearing what people tell me and them coming in for my great counseling skills, I tell people I have earned my PHD in therapy.
Along the way I met a great guy Tom who became the father of my wonderful daughter Shelby. I really do have the best kid in the world. She is the center of the universe to me! Cute too! She takes after me, although her daddy is still very good looking and the BEST dad I could ask for. I’m the strick one and he is the playmate. We have the best relationship having never been married, and him being married now for about 10 years now to Darcy, my daughters step mom. We never married and to this day I remain single. I’m working on that though in several ways.
Do I have guy stories? I think that is one reason my clients come to me in the salon. Most of my friends and clients live vicariously though me. I have great stories which I will get into later.
I hope you enjoy my journey in life with all it’s ups and downs and the fun things I do and create in my life. I never thought I would blog and here I am. WOW! My idol is the pioneer woman. The link to her site is The Pioneer Woman.
I want to be her in a way. We are twins actually, but she doesn’t know it yet. We are from the same mold. I just got turned onto her website about 2 weeks ago. She is great! I hope to be as fun and entertaining as she is. Bare with me, I’m a total rookie!
